This large-scale rainbow sculpture takes air like a kite, and when winds rush, thousands of nylon streamers flow above the Scottsdale Waterfront and Arizona Canal, making it a stunning sight to see for residents and visitors to stop by and get a closer look! This latest project is commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art and designed by Los Angeles-based artist Patrick Shearn and Poetic Kinetics, whose art has been shown around the world and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, giving Scottsdale the great honor to host his artwork and a stunning display for Old Town Scottsdale residents.
Shearn was inspired in creating this artwork display by the physical movements that happen throughout natures daily cycles. “I was moved by the schools of fish underwater and how they move in concert, and I was very moved by wind blowing through fields of wheat…and by the murmuring of birds, the clouds of starling that flock together and you see these amazing patterns happening in the sky,” Shearn says.
After a week of installation, assembled by many invisible wires back in November, “Reflection Rising” has been a sight to see, displaying a colorful rippling sculpture for Scottsdale Waterfront residents and visitors to enjoy. The art display will be up until March 3rd, so stop by and check it out!
