Learn About Avondale
Just 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Phoenix, Avondale is one of The Valley's more slow-paced cities. With a population of nearly 90,000 and an area of 45 square miles, this not-so-small city offers a delightful small-town charm.
Avondale Subdivisions
Avondale is home to many gorgeous subdivisions. The west side city has something for you whether it is a lakeside home, a master-planned community, or a neighborhood near a golf course.
Garden Lakes
Garden Lakes is a desert oasis. The first master-planned community in Avondale, Garden Lakes features North and South Lakes. These man-made lakes are the heart of the community and offer residents boating, fishing, and picnic areas. This tranquil community is also home to parks, playgrounds, and ramadas. Garden Lakes emits a small-town, tight-knit community vibe.
Homes in Garden Lakes range from small single-family to larger more luxurious homes featuring grand foyers and designer chef's kitchens. Some houses even back up to the lakes and come equipped with their own boat dock.
Coldwater Springs
Coldwater Springs is home to an 18-hole championship golf course, a driving range, and a short game practice area. Homes in the community feature open-concept kitchens, large family rooms, spacious lofts, and beautifully landscaped yards.
Situated between Buckeye and Van Buren and the Agua Fria River and Avondale Boulevard, this golf lover's paradise is near many shopping and dining options.
Rancho Santa Fe
Homes in the family-friendly Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood are one and two-story and feature extended driveways, additional loft space, covered patios, and RV gates.
The subdivision features several community parks; however, this neighborhood is a short jot from Friendship Park. Friendship Park is home to sports fields, shaded playgrounds, a dog park, a splash pad, and a beautiful Japanese garden.
Rancho Santa Fe is within two miles of several retail stores and shopping centers. The quiet community is located between West Indian School and McDowell Roads, just north of I-10.
Entertainment
Avondale is home to various forms of entertainment, ranging from breweries to golf centers. Avondale has something for everyone, whether it is happy hour with friends or a farmer’s market.
Phoenix Raceway
Phoenix Raceway, previously known as Phoenix International Raceway and ISM Raceway, is a motorsport track located near Avondale Boulevard and El Mirage Road.
The Raceway hosts two annual NASCAR weekends each year, and in 2020, the motorsport track hosted the final championship race.
Earlier this month, members from the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals experienced life as a NASCAR driver, jumping behind the wheel after finishing a training course teaching them precautionary measures.
In December 2022 and February and March 2023, Phoenix Raceway will host the NASCAR Racing Experience. This unique opportunity will allow the public to drive shotgun with a pro or take the wheel themselves.
8-Bits Aleworks
The unique microbrewery, 8-Bit Aleworks, combines high-quality ale and video games in a fresh spin on adult fun.
Located near Van Buren and 127th Avenue, the retro-gaming microbrewery offers small-batch, full-flavor beer, tasty food, and a mellow atmosphere perfect for a night out with friends.
The mom-and-pop establishment features a tasting room that seats over 40 guests and offers Super Nintendo, NES, tabletops games, and arcade games.
Legend of Zymur, an IPA, White Mage, a wheat beer, and Graham Turismo, a brown ale, are some 8-Bits popular ales on tap. However, the microbrewery frequently changes its drink menu. The hip bar even allows patrons to bring in outside food.
Historic Avondale
Historic Avondale is home to fabulous restaurants and unique cultural experiences.
Coldwater Coffee House and Bakery may not look like much from the outside; however, the fresh falafel sandwiches and Spanish Migas will blow your mind. In addition to their farmhouse brick and mortar setting, the farm-to-table cafe sets up shop at the Uptown Farmers Market, Old Town Avondale Street Market, and other outside markets throughout the community where the public can purchase their fresh brews, tasty treats, and locally grown produce.
The Sam Garcia Library offers more than just books. Free events like "Meet the Hohokam" teaches children about the ancestral O'odham, the Hohokam - how they lived, the canal system they invented, and highlights Hohokam artifacts. The library also offers adult classes like adult crafting, where materials are provided at no charge.
Valley Golf Center
Golf enthusiasts love Valley Golf Center, home to a 60-stations, double-decker range.
If you are ready to sharpen your game, there is no better place than Avondale's Valley Golf Center. The driving range looks precisely like an actual golf course, and the 12,000 square foot putting course is the ideal place to enjoy your golfing experience.
Located on the southeast corner of El Mirage and West Indian School, the golf center also offers PGA Class A certified instructions for any skill level.
