What to Look for in Buckeye Horse Properties

Acreage, location, and accessibility determine where you buy horse property.

For one horse, you need a minimum of an acre and a half and one acre for each additional horse.

The location of your horse property should be near a vet, training facilities, and feed and tack stores.

How accessible your horse property is makes a significant difference. Anyone visiting your property, such as vets, or you, should be able to move around quickly on your property. You want to move easily between different areas of your land; for example, between the arena and the barn.

If your horse ranch needs to provide more areas for riding opportunities, you want to have an arena nearby.

Proper drainage on your land is critical. Poor drainage leads to a muddy mess which will cause several problems. The best way to discover if the property has drainage issues is to visit it after heavy rain. You can always install a ditch or drain line if you need to.

Examine all the buildings on the property to look for any structural issues. Minor issues like broken stalls can be easily replaced; however, look carefully for any sagging foundation, as this is nearly impossible to correct.

The buildings on your horse property are a barn, indoor or outdoor arena, feed room, tack room, and run-in shed. If these buildings still need to be added to the property, be sure you have sufficient space to build them.
