Anthem is a master-planned community about 30 miles north of downtown Phoenix on I-17, at the base of Daisy Mountain and Gavilan Peak.

In 1999, Del Webb planned Anthem as one community of nearly 6,000 acres, rather than a group of separate developments.

Today, Anthem has more than 10,000 homes, mostly in the 85086 ZIP code.

Anthem's population is just over 23,000. This gives it small-town charm and a close-knit community. More than a third of Anthem is open space, and desert washes run between the neighborhoods.

Is Anthem Part of Phoenix?

Part of it is.

Anthem west of I-17, including Arroyo Grande, Circle Mountain, and Outlets North Phoenix, is inside Phoenix city limits.

The east side of Anthem, including Anthem Country Club, is unincorporated Maricopa County.

The Postal Service accepts Anthem or Phoenix as the city name for the 85086 ZIP code, so addresses in Anthem can use either one.

Anthem Neighborhoods

Anthem has two main residential communities, Anthem Parkside and Anthem Country Club.

Each has its own HOA, and owners also pay assessments to the Anthem Community Council, which runs the community park and community center.

Anthem Parkside

Anthem Parkside is the larger of the two communities, with more than 7,000 homes on both sides of I-17.

Parkside isn't gated, and it surrounds Anthem Community Park and the Anthem Community Center. It is made up of smaller named neighborhoods, including Paseo, The Landing, Arroyo Grande, and Circle Mountain. All of them share the same amenities, but the housing styles differ.

• Paseo has two-story patio homes, and the HOA takes care of the front yards.
• Arroyo Grande is west of I-17 across the New River wash, and some homes have oversized lots with room for RVs and boats.
• Circle Mountain is the newest neighborhood in Anthem, with one- and two-story homes that Lennar and Pulte began building in 2017.

Anthem Country Club

Anthem Country Club is a gated community of nearly 2,900 homes on Anthem's east side.

The community surrounds two 18-hole golf courses, the Persimmon Course and the Ironwood Course.

Club members also have clubhouses, tennis and pickleball courts, pools, and a fitness center.

Anthem Community Park covers 63 acres and includes several amenities:

Shopping in Anthem

Outlets North Phoenix, formerly Outlets at Anthem, is the main shopping center in Anthem, at I-17 and Anthem Way.

The center has Coach, Columbia Sportswear, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Under Armour, and other outlet stores.

• New River Elementary School

Boulder Creek High School is the main public high school for Anthem. DVUSD assigns schools by address, so check the school boundary for an Anthem home with the district before you buy.

What Hospitals Are Near Anthem?

There are three hospitals near Anthem:

• HonorHealth Sonoran Crossing Medical Center, about 4.5 miles south at I-17 and Dove Valley Road
• HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center, about 13 miles south
• Abrazo Arrowhead Campus in Glendale, about 15 miles southwest

HonorHealth also runs an urgent care in Anthem at Gavilan Peak.
