About Phoenix, Arizona Golf Courses:

The history of Phoenix golf courses dates back to the turn of the 20th century, where a 9-hole dirt course was created in 1900 near the intersection of Roosevelt and 3rd Street. Since those early days, the number of golf courses within the Phoenix city limits alone has grown to nearly 20. The golf courses in Phoenix, Arizona range in both style and difficulty. Whether you are looking for an easy, relatively flat track or undulating terrain from tee to green, there is an option for you in Phoenix.

In this section, we will provide a little more information about the different types of courses you will find in Phoenix, where to find them, and the types of homes you can find around them.

Phoenix City Golf Courses

In total, the city of Phoenix features six different golf facilities with eight different golf courses of various lengths and difficulties. In the heart of Phoenix, you will find the historic Encanto Golf Course, which is a part of the amazing Encanto park. There are two different courses at Encanto; a traditional 18-hole course, and a short 9-hole executive course which is perfect for beginners or anyone who is looking for a quick, easy round.

A few miles west of Encanto is the Grand Canyon University Golf Course, formerly known as Mayvale Golf Course. After an extensive renovation, GCU Golf Course transformed into a championship caliber golf facility, and is still open to the public. A short trip south of GCU is where you will find South Mountain's Aguila Golf Course. Similar to Encanto, Aguila offers a championship 18-hole golf course, and a fun 9-hole executive golf course.

Palo Verde Golf Course is the city's only standalone 9-hole executive course, located in the Alhambra neighborhood in Central Phoenix. North Phoenix's only municipal golf course is Cave Creek Golf Course, which is easily accessible via Interstate 17.

We saved the best for last: Papago Golf Course. Not only does this golf course feature stunning views of Phoenix and Camelback Mountain, the facility has enjoyed two major renovations. First the golf course was redesigned into one of the Valley's best and most popular public golf courses. Then, in 2018, the practice facility was upgraded into arguably the best public golf practice area in the state.

Every municipal golf course in Phoenix is within a mile of amazing homes, condos, and townhomes, and several subdivisions border the golf courses. If you are looking for a Phoenix home for sale near a golf course, the city courses are a great place to begin your search.

Phoenix Private Golf Courses

There are three private golf courses in the city of Phoenix, and each of them is placed in a different area. Phoenix Country Club is located in the heart of Midtown Phoenix, and has certainly upgraded from the original dirt course. The Country Club hosted the Phoenix Open for several decades, from 1932 to 1986. Despite the influx of desert-style golf courses, Phoenix Country Club is still one of the most popular private country clubs, and one of the best places to own a golf course home.

If Phoenix Country Club wasn't hosting the Phoenix Open, it was most likely Arizona Country Club. Nestled near the Arcadia neighborhood, Arizona Country Club features a scenic golf experience, with Camelback Mountain in the background. Their beautiful clubhouse is a great place for a meal before or after your round, with other amenities including a swimming pool, fitness center, and tennis center. The homes near Arizona Country Club feature luxury Tuscan villas among other stunning Southwestern-style architecture.

Moon Valley Country Club is located near the northwest corner of Thunderbird Road and 7th Street, and has a part of professional golf history as well. It is the golf course where Annika Sorenstam shot the first-ever 59 in LPGA history. Residents of the Moon Valley community enjoy amazing views of the golf course grounds, as well as the peaceful serenity of a secluded golf course neighborhood.

Phoenix Resort Golf Courses

The resort courses in Phoenix offer more than your typical golf course or country club. Casitas and townhomes are popular on or near golf course resorts, and these real estate units make excellent investment opportunities for short term rentals. There are three notable Phoenix resorts: Lookout Mountain, Arizona Biltmore, and Arizona Grand.

Lookout Mountain is a part of the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and their 18-hole golf course is nestled against the scenic North Phoenix mountains. The homes in the Lookout Mountain community feature luxurious floorplans, floor to ceiling windows, and amazing golf course views.

Arizona Biltmore features two amazing 18-hole golf courses as well as a Waldorf Astoria resort for guests. The Biltmore neighborhood is a popular area for patio homes, and if you are looking for a patio home in this area, Biltmore Shadows and Biltmore Gardens are a great place to start your search. You can also find some incredible luxury estates within the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, which feature amazing views of Piestewa Peak.

Lastly, Arizona Grand is located in South Phoenix, near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Baseline Road. The Resort and Spa is a popular place for visitors during the peak tourist season, and the amazing South Mountain views provide a nice backdrop.  If you love the resort and the golf course, the Arizona Grand Villas are perfect for your short-term rental and vacation needs!
